Introducing... Mr. Cooper James!

He's here!  Cooper James came into our arms and our hearts on August 30th after two very long weeks on the adoption roller coaster.  On 8/17 we got an "urgent" phone call from our agency asking to see if we would be willing to travel to Florida for an adoption of a baby boy born on 8/10.  Of course we said YES, and they said to be prepared to fly out over that weekend for legal proceedings to take place Monday 8/22.  So we prepared and waited for the phone call.  And waited...and waited.  We found out that the baby was staying with an OB nurse and that we were waiting for the birth mother to meet with her and make a commitment to adoption.  Long story short, on the 29th at 11:00 pm we were told to book a flight.  We arrived in Orlando, Fl on 8/30 and drove to Gainesville to meet our son.  At 12:30am Cooper James was brought to us at our hotel.  We had a chance to learn more about his little journey to us and had a good visit with the nurse who had been caring for him.  Cooper was born at 36 weeks so he was a preemie weighing 5 pounds 13 ounces and was 18 inches long.  He is a healthy baby boy and we are fattening him up.  On Wednesday 8/31 the birth mother signed all the paperwork and Cooper, John, and I went shopping.  We are now stuck in Florida until paperwork goes through for Cooper to be able to leave the state and enter Kansas.  Living in a hotel room with a newborn is not ideal but we aren't going to complain.  We are very blessed and very much in love with our little guy and can't wait to be back home and introduce him to all of our friends and family!

  1. All I can say, is how extremely happy I am for you! This is great news. I know your heart must be bursting.

I've been in many hotel rooms with Isabella when she was just a month old - I feel for you. I hope you were able to book an extended stay suite so you've at least got a kitchen. We found those to be the most functional for the baby.

    Our thoughts are with you!
